Artist Biography

The large-scale paintings by Ursula Schneider are based on her observations of the Hudson River, the architecture of the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear power plant in Buchanan, New York, and the intrusion of industrial barges on the river’s serenity.

In 1997 Schneider developed a technique for producing panels, made of four layers of sheer nylon fabric laminated with urethane, that were strong, flexible, absorbent as well as translucent. With her unique process of painting with pure pigments and a keen eye for formal concerns Schneider translates water and reflections into intercepting bands of color. Basing each painting on a specific time and season the artist brings movement and depth to each scene.
